For individuals 3 of 3

  1. The mask
  2. Lessons learned
  3. So what next?

Is this for you?

People arrive with a tactical shopping list.

Every one of those is fair, and I can address all of them, but not with the traditional approach of training and knowledge. Those approaches attempt to treat the symptoms, not the cause, and rarely touch confidence, assertiveness, conflict or temperament, because none of those are knowledge problems.

So I am looking for the person who asks the real question.

Why do I feel this way?

It is not for everyone, and that is not a marketing line

This work requires you to be genuinely willing to look inward.

If the ego is too dominant, a person will spend the whole time denying what they discover and defending the public version of themselves. It is for that reason that this is not for everyone. I understand people’s reasons, and I understand why many leaders will not begin at all. It cannot be forced on anyone. It has to be a choice.

Many will not make it, and that is not weakness. The numbers have always told them they were fine, and there is no obvious reason to look underneath a result that landed. Choosing to look anyway is the difficult part, and it is the part nobody credits.

If none of this resonates with you, then I am the wrong person for you, and I would rather say so at the start than take your money and fail to deliver the outcome you came for. For the leaders who do make that choice, what they get back is six months that changes how they work for the rest of their career.

Working together

I begin with an honest, structured read of where you are. Not the presenting problem you arrive with, but what sits underneath it and drives how you operate when the pressure is on.

From there the work is practical and repeated, because behaviour becomes durable through repetition. You will meet the instruments in the first session, and you will know very quickly whether they see you.

What changes

You stop spending energy on looking in control, because you are in control. That is usually the first thing people notice, and it is rarely the thing they came in asking for.

The authority stops needing to be asserted. You are not managing how you are seen, so there is more of you left for the work, and for the people doing it.

You will still recognise yourself. The point is not to become somebody else. It is to stop running a version of you that was assembled under pressure years ago, in conditions you would not choose now.

The result is not a more convincing mask. It is a leader who no longer needs one.

What the programme includes

The good news. Once you start this process, you gain perspective. What you learn applies to your marriage, your family and your friendships as much as to your team, because it is the same person in all of them.

If any of that sounded familiar

Write to me. I take a small number of clients, and the first conversation costs nothing and commits you to nothing. I will tell you honestly whether I can help you.
